Sure, they just seem to me groups that were much more interesting and had a bigger draw ten years ago, and they had both been touring recently, making their presence at Roskilde prime time less understandable, especially if the festival wants to attract an international audience.

The third big Danish name, Nephew, was a timely choice and did seem like an unqualified success. That I happen to hate their music shouldn’t detract from that, although they’re bordering on the kind of pop music that the festival doesn’t normally cover.

As for Gorillaz, I’ve also heard different things; nobody I spoke to was unreservedly enthusiastic, but a few of the reviews were surprisingly positive, so maybe I’m totally wrong there.

I completely agree with the overall sentiment here. Just one minor quibble: It may be a bit much to call Dizzy Mizz Lizzy and Kashmir “a substantial amount of … veteran Danish acts without much current relevance” – especially since Kashmir are still releasing albums to substantial sales and at least some critical acclaim.

The Gorillaz-concert seems to have been quite the divisive experience: I’ve heard a lot of both good and bad things about it and regret not having been able to check it out for myself …
